GOLF TOUR
Myanmar has about 100 golf courses, whereof about 25 of
international standard. We have chosen to introduce the courses
we include in our Golf Tour program.
Myanmar once was a British colony. During British era golf
was adopted as an official sport for British Officials and those
who worked their administration.
Today it is like in other countries a common sport for the
enthusiasts.
The Golf sport became very popular from its introduction
after the British annexation of Burma. Because of this there are
from this time excellent golf courses in Myanmar, mostly in or
near all the major cities. It has become a legend now; even that
Thayet Golf Course was a golf course very much similar to St.
Andrew Golf Course in Scotland. The landscape is almost
identical. Just to give you an idea of the golf history of
former British Burma.
The main tourist spots in Myanmar are Yangon, Bago, Bagan,
Mandalay, Inlay, Myitkyina, Pyin Oo Lwin, Rakhine Myo Haung and
Ngapali. All these locations have nice good standard golf
courses.
In Myanmar there are three seasons: Summer, Raining season and
winter. Summer starts from end of February to mid of May.
Raining season starts from mid May to end September. Winter
season starts from mid September to end February. The Golf
season starts from the month of October to May. In winter the
weather are quite chilly and the intensity of heat is low. It is
a favorable weather for Europeans.
The tourist spots vary according to the topography of the
region. We have mountainous terrain, flat surface terrain and
semi hilly and flat terrain. Apart from those terrains we have
wet land called the delta region along the Irrawaddy River.
Yangon is situated in lower Myanmar and it is near the sea
(30 kilometers) and receives in the raining season plenty of
rainfall to all the trees and plants making them evergreen.
Winter being the tourist season and the weather is also suitable
for golf playing! This although the Myanmar players are playing
all year round like on the courses in northern Europe.
MANDALAY
Mandalay is located in upper Myanmar and it is in the dry region
(and pleasant all year round). The city itself gives a lot of
tourist attractions. It is the last capital of Myanmar kings;
rich with monasteries, pagodas and many traditional arts like
ivory and wood carvings, silk, weaving, gold embroidery,
silverware stone carving. There are a lot more interesting
things to study in its neighborhood.
Pyin Oo Lwin is 67 kilometers away from Mandalay and it is
situated on a hill. 1070 meters above sea level. One of the most
beautiful places in Myanmar. It is chilly all year round. During
the British occupation it was summer refugee for the British
administrators. It has a top graded golf course and maintained
up to the international standard.
Bagan is an ancient city dating back to 10 century. It is an
old capital with a historic king palace from the time of King
Anawrahta. It a very important site to be visited in Myanmar and
one of the richest archeological sites in Asia, containing over
2000 edifices. This ancient city with its pagodas offer a rich
architectural heritage was built on the bank of Irrawaddy River.
The landscape is happened to be the center of the country with
little part of the region. It has a golf course international
standard.
Nearby there are the beautiful and interesting Mount Popa, also
with an excellent golf course.
Inle is a huge lake located in Southern Shan State which is
Shan plateau; thousands of meters high mountains surround the
Inlay. One of its events is the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda festival
which celebrates During the Tha Din Gyut lighting festival.
Other attractions include floating market, wooden hand looms and
floating cultivation. One of the fascinating sites is the local
people paddling the canoe-long boats with one leg in the lake.
Taunggyi, the capital of Southern Shan State is 1,430 meters
over sea level. Kalaw, one time a British holiday resort 1320
